1995. A Dictionary of Karst and Caves: A Brief Guide to the Terminology and Concepts of Cave and Karst Science. Cave Studies Series Number 6. British Cave Research Association. 41 sider.

"A large sinkhole has appeared in part of the Peak District in Derbyshire.

The hole, which eye witnesses said measures about 160ft (49m) wide, has opened up in the village of Foolow.

Caver Mark Noble, 58, from Eyam, said he saw the hole during a walk on Christmas Day, but believes the land began to fall the day before.

He said he has explored the caves at Foolow in the past as huge cavities were left in the area from an old lead mine."

"A sinkhole developed under the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, swallowing eight cars Wednesday morning.

The sinkhole opened up around 5:30 a.m. CST, setting off an alarm. Nobody was inside at the time.

Museum officials said the sinkhole destroyed eight cars:

·   1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
·   2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil" on loan from General Motors

The other six vehicles were Corvettes owned by the National Corvette Museum:
·   1962 Black Corvette
·   1984 PPG Pace Car
·   1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
·   1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
·   2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette

"So you can compact a sink hole, fill it up and build a building on top of it. However, the cave streams will continue to undermine any of that soil that may be funneling it's way down," said Dr. Michael May, WKU Professor for Department of Geography and Geology.

for agurknytt  :)

"The owners of a house under which a huge sinkhole has opened up have told Sky News it was "a nightmare" and they have lost their home.
The 25ft hole - the UK's sixth in a month - caused huge cracks to open up in the walls of the house in a close in Ripon, North Yorkshire overnight on Monday.
A total of three homes have been evacuated because it is feared that one of them might collapse."

Ja, du godeste.

Ikke ha en Corvette i karstlandskap.

"Work to rescue 8 classic cars swallowed by a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum is going faster than expected.

Today, in an unexpected turn of events, workers were able to reach the Millionth Corvette and pull it free.

"Initially there was no intention to bring the Millionth out, but as we got in there and saw more this morning we did feel like this might be our best chance," said Danny Daniel, President of Scott, Murphy and Daniel Construction.

The car was pulled by one wheel from where it was lodged and swung free into the cavern. They were then able to lift the car and place it to rest, upside down on the bottom of the sinkhole. Finally, the Corvette was hooked up by its two tires for final lifting out of the sinkhole."
